  Emil was born illegitimately long after the death of his mother's husband, but carried the name Foth. He came to the US with his mother aboard the Herder (Hapag line), departing from Hamburg and Havre and landing in New York 5 July 1882. He lived in the Norwalk, Wisconsin area until 1890 when they moved to Valley County (Ord) Nebraska, where he lived the rest of his life. He lived about two miles west of North Loup a short time, then moved to Mira Valley on the southwest corner of section 33. He was naturalized in 1913. Besides being a successful farmer and raising his own family, he made a home for his mother (Anna Zabel Foth) and acted as a guardian for his nephew, Max Foth, for a number of years. He died of cancer of the stomach. He was buried in the Mira Valley cemetery, but was removed to Ord Cemetery in 1951. Taufpaten: Eins. Jacob Sommerfeld u. Fr. Anna.
